Bond’s Torment – Scribe Robert Wade Talks “Quantum”

The talented writing duo of Robert Wade and Neal Purvis has become a staple of the Bond franchise. After penning “Casino Royale,” perhaps the best Bond movie in recent memory, they have high expectations to fulfill with Bond’s latest adventure.

With “Quantum of Solace” making its U.S. release today, I had a chance to ask Wade about the storytelling approach employed in this new release. He stressed that “Quantum of Solace” is a continuation of “Casino Royale” especially in terms of exploring Bond’s raw emotional state.

“There was no way [Bond] could just emerge from ‘Casino Royale’ and be smooth and unruffled off the bat in the next picture,” Wade commented. “Also, the concept of the next film being ‘part 2’ of ‘Casino’ was implicit early on in our development of ‘Casino Royale’ both continuing Bond’s emotional journey, and learning more of the enemies ranged against him behind the scenes in ‘Casino Royale’.”  Continue reading

I recently spoke with actress Lizzy Caplan about her upcoming role in HBO’s True Blood.

Being that Caplan is a self-professed and outspoken fan of Lost, I asked her if she would be interested in joining the show or guest starring on it at some point.

“That’s one that’s impossible to turn down,” she said of the ABC phenomenon. “Lost is one of the most innovative shows out right now.” Continue reading

Academy Voters…Why So Serious?

Warner Bros. hopes award show audiences will be clapping their hands for "The Dark Knight."

Warner Bros. hopes award show audiences will be clapping their hands for "The Dark Knight."

I guess Bruce Wayne just isn’t happy with his fast cars, fortune and cool bat gadgets. Now, he wants an Oscar. To make sure he gets it, Warner Bros. will re-release “The Dark Knight” in January to make sure award voters don’t forget how Batman saved Gotham from the psychotic Joker this past July.

Perhaps the Joker will have the last laugh, though, because he may be the one who ultimately covets Oscar gold. Continue reading

New Fast & Furious Trailer

The new HD trailer for next summer’s “Fast & Furious” film is online. It is formulaic and features mostly what you’d expect – fast cars, explosions and beautiful women. That said, the first film in the franchise was one of those guilty pleasure movies that I must admit I really enjoyed. Just from watching the trailer, “Fast & Furious” feels like more of a legitimate sequel to that first film than the disappointing “2 Fast 2 Furious” or the totally bogus “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.” Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez will all be back. Therefore, the tag line in the trailer says it all: “New Model. Original Parts.”

“Fast & Furious” revs onto the big screen on June 5, 2009.
